In this day it is a term that is probably over used, but admittedly there are still some places and events that do warrant this label. Star Dune, in the Great Sand Dunes National Park, is one of those locations. At more than 750 feet tall, it is the tallest dune in North America, and the journey to the top and back can take over four hours.

So, whether viewed from a distance, or viewed from it's top, Star Dune is certainly still deserving of the mantle "icon."
