Some Stillness B&W

The Elk River near Clark Colorado is quickly becoming one of my favorite places.  This is from a series of images all of which used a long exposure technique. The idea is to capture a moment, yet still show the drama and motion of the water.  Afterall, moments really aren’t “moments,” they are part of the narrative. With the snow beginning to recede winter loses its grip, while the overcast day and the thinning snow a reminder of the seasons’ impermanence.  The subtle curve of the river and outstretched finger of ice taking us to places out of site. These sections of river, just outside of civilization, offer that glimpse of nature when it was still wild.

This image was all about the depth of the scene.  Shot with a small aperture, the entire image is in focus. The slower shutter not only let in more light to create better detail, it also shows the river in motion, with the river’s boulders and icy details in their stillest moments.
